Only ‘dissonance’ with SON is over…”won’t play again this season” outlook
Ivan Perisic’s time in North London looks set to come to an end after he arrived in a Tottenham shirt with high hopes. The right anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in September has ruled him out of action this season, and his contract with Spurs expires at the end of the season. 캡틴토토
Multiple outlets, including the UK’s The Athletic and the Evening Standard, report that “Perisic is not expected to play again this season, while James Maddison, 27, Micky van der Vaart, 22, and Manor Solomon, 24, are out until the New Year. Ryan Sessegnon (23) and Ashley Phillips (18) are also injured,” the publication reported.
Perisic suffered a massive blow to his right anterior cruciate ligament in training in September. An ACL injury is the most devastating injury to a soccer player. Players who suffer an ACL injury spend at least half a year rehabilitating, and many never regain their form afterward. To add insult to injury, Perisic is in his mid-30s, a time when it’s not uncommon for players to retire.
For Perisic, this season has been crucial. He left Inter for Tottenham last season at the behest of Antonio Conte (54-Italy) and underperformed in his first season. He scored one goal and provided 12 assists in 44 games across all competitions, but his partnership with main striker Son Heung-min (31) was a failing grade. Perisic’s excessive overlapping victimized Son tactically, greatly reducing his impact.
While Perisic was excellent at creating chances from crosses from the flanks, he was very shaky in defense. There was speculation that he could leave the team after the appointment of Ange Postecoglou (58-Australia), but he stayed and fulfilled his ‘joker’ role. His first attacking point of the season came in the fifth round of the league against Sheffield United, when he assisted on a goal by Heyshallisong (26), showing the veteran’s strength.
However, it could be his last attacking point for Tottenham. After this game, Perisic was sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and his status is only known through photos posted on his personal social media accounts. At the end of the season, Perisic will be a free agent, but it’s unlikely that Tottenham will snap him up.
Meanwhile, having lost a wing option due to Perisic’s injury, Spurs will be looking to make a move in the January transfer window. “Signing a central defender is a priority, but Spurs could look at other positions, including wingers, with Perisic out for the season and Solomon expected to be out until the new year,” the Evening Standard reports.
Currently, Spurs are interested in bringing in Jota (24, Al Ittihad) on loan, who is a ‘favorite’ of Postecoglou’s. Several other wingers have also been mentioned, including Norwegian international Antonio Nusa (18-Clippe Brugge) and Marcus Edwards (24-Sporting), who came through the Spurs youth system.
