10 years with GS, Handa Hye “Is GS a place that pays me a salary?”

Women’s professional volleyball libero Handa Hye has been playing in the V-League for a decade in a GS Caltex uniform.

Born in 1995, Handahye was drafted by GS Caltex with the fifth pick in the third round of the 2013 rookie draft. She didn’t get much playing time until the 2015-16 season. In 2016-17, she started playing more than 20 games. Finally, she became an unrestricted free agent in 2021 and was re-signed by GS Caltex. Handahye did her part last season, ranking third in receptions and sixth in digs. The 2023-24 season will be her 11th with the organization.

At the first round of the 2023-24 V-League at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on April 20, GS Caltex held a commemorative event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Handahye One Club. GS Caltex also distributed commemorative mufflers.

After the first set, Handahye stood in front of the fans. She received a 10th anniversary gift, a picture frame, a bouquet of flowers from coach Cha Sang-hyun, and took a commemorative photo. Handa Hye said, “Thank you for your longtime support. Please continue to support us in the future,” she said, expressing her gratitude.

After the game, coach Cha Sang-hyun said, “She is the only player who has been with the team since the rookie draft. I think it’s really difficult for a player to stay on the same team for 10 years. I really want to say congratulations to her.” He added, “She has struggled and stayed for 10 years, and she has established herself as the best libero. I think it’s because of her hard work. It’s great that she’s been around for 10 years.” The audience applauded generously.

Speaking to the press, Handa Hye said, “It seems like just yesterday that I was in the gym for my first season, and I can’t believe it. But I feel good because they took good care of me,” she said, “I also want to say thank you to the director for trusting me so far.”

“I don’t like being in the spotlight. However, I was informed about the photo shoot during the game, so I was prepared, but I went in a little too nervous. I missed some balls that I could have caught,” he said honestly.

Her most memorable moment came in the 2020-21 season 토토사이트. “I still remember the most when we traveled,” she said.

“When I was first drafted, I said, ‘Let’s hold on as long as we can,’ and it’s been 10 years,” she said. “Also, I couldn’t play at all in the beginning, so I thought, ‘Should I stay on this team?’ I thought it would be better to go to an unemployment team and play a game, but I think I survived because people talked to me about it.”

As for her future goals, she said, “I have older sisters on the team now. I want to do well for a long time without injury like my sisters.” When asked, “What is GS Caltex to me?” he said, “It’s hard. A place that gives you a salary?” and made the interview room burst into laughter. This is Handa Hye-da, who exudes a wacky personality.

The changes at GS Caltex this year are significant. Veteran middle blocker Jung Dae-young transferred to GS Caltex, and the team started the new season with new foreign player Giselle Silva (registered name Silva). In the back row, Handa Hye is a steady presence.
