High-profile MLB reporter claims “Ohtani might be interested in Boston”
Shohei Ohtani, Major League Baseball’s only active two-hitter, has made a unique claim amid the ongoing interest in his destination.
“A National League executive with a long-standing relationship with Shohei Ohtani believes Ohtani is interested in Boston,” Peter Gammons, a well-known major league baseball reporter, wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.
According to Gammons, the connection between Ohtani and Boston is Jim Davis, CEO of sporting goods brand New Balance.
Davis is from Massachusetts, where Boston is located, and grew up there. He still lives there today.
Ohtani also has a good relationship with Davis. He models for New Balance and wears their products on the court. 토토사이트
It remains to be seen how much this relationship will affect his contract. It’s likely to be of interest.
Gammons pointed out that there are issues that would need to be resolved for Boston to land Ohtani.
The biggest one is that the Red Sox already have a designated hitter in Masataka Yoshida. With a torn elbow ligament, Ortiz will have to play most of the 2024 season as a “halfling”.
If the Red Sox were to sign Ohtani, they would be redundant at the designated hitter position, and it’s doubtful they can afford that.
Gammons believes the Red Sox will spend the majority of their money this offseason on pitching.
Ohtani, who has six years of service time through the 2023 season, will be eligible for free agency five days after the World Series ends.
